Robert Gregory is the Global Research Director and heads up Planet Retail’s Research Team from London. Robert has over a decade’s experience in analysing research trends and is an expert on global trends and the changing retail landscape. He is a regular contributor to a number of publications around the world and speaks at global industry events.
Boris Planer is the Chief Economist based in Frankfurt. Boris specialises in macroeconomics and market trends, and is a regular speaker at retail events, usually with a focus on retail modernisation and investment opportunities in emerging markets. Before he became a Research Director, prior to his appointment as Chief Economist, Boris analysed Central & Eastern European markets for six years. Today, his research focus has broadened to include Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Emerging Asia and Latin America. He began building Planet Retail's macroeconomic database in 2002 and has expanded its coverage ever since. Boris has worked as a Retail Analyst since 1999.
Natalie Berg is responsible for driving Planet Retail’s strategic insights. She has over a decade’s experience providing analysis and opinion on the world’s largest retailers with a particular focus on supermarkets, discounting and online retail. She is a regular TV and radio commentator for UK retail news with appearances on the BBC, Sky, CNBC and Bloomberg. Natalie has published work on key industry topics such as the rise of click & collect and private label trends, and her first book Walmart: Key Insights and Practical Lessons from the World’s Largest Retailer was published in 2012 to coincide with the company's 50th anniversary. She holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business from the University of Connecticut and also studied at Ecole Supérieure de Commerce in Grenoble, France.
David Gordon is Planet Retail’s Research Director focusing on European grocery retailing. David joined Planet Retail in 2016 and is supported by a team of retail analysts based in London and Frankfurt. The team provide retailer insights, thought-provoking research and forecasts of the retail landscape for the Planet Retail portal, as well as delivering bespoke advisory projects and speaking engagements.
David Gray is a Senior Retail Analyst in grocery based in London. David has spent almost a decade evaluating UK trends and now specialises in grocery retailing across the UK and France, with a particular focus on Carrefour and Tesco. David regularly features in print and broadcast media and produces reports, presentations and articles that deliver insight on his areas of expertise. Prior to joining Planet Retail, he worked for market research firm TNS (now Kantar Retail). David holds a BA Joint Honours in Geography and History from the University of Leeds in the UK.
Joachim Pinhammer is a Senior Analyst, based in Frankfurt, specialising in retail technology and supply chain trends and collaboration between trading partners. Before joining Planet Retail, Joachim was Wincor Nixdorf's Retail Marketing Director for a decade. He has also held various management positions in sales and marketing at Siemens Nixdorf and Nixdorf Computer AG. Joachim started his business career working for German retailers Peek & Cloppenburg and Karstadt as a department manager after completing a combined study programme at the latter. He qualified at Babson College, Wellesley, in the US, through its Entrepreneurial Development Programme.
Bianca Casertano is a Retail Analyst in grocery based in Frankfurt. Bianca's expertise lies in the Italian, Swiss and Austrian markets and she is responsible for several German retailer profiles. Bianca worked for M+M Eurodata from 1993 until its merger with Planet Retail in 2001. She features in print and broadcast media and produces reports, presentations and articles that deliver insight on her areas of expertise. Bianca is an Engineering Graduate in Food Technology from Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences in Germany.
Tatjana Wolff is a Retail Analyst in macroeconomics based in Frankfurt, helping to maintain and enhance Planet Retail’s macroeconomics database. In addition, Tatjana covers the grocery sector in Sub-Saharan Africa and contributes to general research projects on emerging markets. Tatjana holds a Master’s Degree in Food Economics and Nutrition Science from the University of Kiel, Germany.
Franziska Schmidt is a Retail Analyst in macroeconomics based in Frankfurt, helping to maintain and enhance Planet Retail’s macroeconomics database. In addition, she contributes to general research projects on emerging markets and covers retailers in Brazil and Sub-Saharan Africa. Franziska studied Political Sciences and Economics at the University of Frankfurt, Germany.
Adam Cienski is an Associate Analyst in grocery based in Frankfurt. He is responsible for a number of European retailers, with a focus on north-western Europe, and closely monitors their performance and developments, particularly in Eastern Europe. Adam holds a BA Degree in Slavonic Language Science from Goethe University Frankfurt and spent time studying in Prague. As well as German and English, he speaks Polish, Czech and Russian.
Anna Hoang is an Associate Analyst in grocery based in London. Anna specialises in grocery retailing in the UK and Asian markets. Prior to joining Planet Retail, she spent five years working at FMCG companies including Unilever, Diageo, and in the market research field. Anna holds a Masters Degree in Retail Management from Bournemouth University in the UK.
Tiffany Lung is an Associate Analyst based in London. She specialises in grocery retailing in the LATAM and UK markets. In the past she has worked with numerous retailers, both in front line and back-end retail. Tiffany holds a BA Degree in Fashion Retailing Management from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Howard Lake is a Senior Editor based in London. He is responsible for overseeing Planet Retail’s news output as well as the writing, design and production of reports, and works closely with the Content team on a wide range of print and digital publications. He also writes extensively across a broad range of retailers and topics. Prior to joining Planet Retail’s Editorial team in 2012, he worked for a variety of publishing and media companies both in the UK and the US.
Deepanshu Mandlekar is a Retail Analyst based in Mumbai and specialises in analysing Indian retail industry. He has over a decade’s experience in research and analytics and leads the Planet Retail research team in Mumbai. Earlier he worked with Reliance Communications reporting to the CIO and was managing their knowledge processes including business research, competitive intelligence and marketing analytics. Deepanshu started his career with Netscribes where he was responsible for conducting research on retail technologies for a global IT services company. He has a Master’s degree in computer science and an MBA degree.
Surender Khalsa is an Associate Analyst based in Mumbai, focusing on retail technology. She holds a Master’s Degree in Management Studies (specialising in marketing) from the University of Mumbai.
Rohan Hingorani is an Associate Analyst based in Mumbai, focusing primarily on Planet Retail's Indian and Middle Eastern retailer portfolio and forecourt convenience store research. Rohan is a graduate in Business Management (specialising in Marketing) from the University of Mumbai. Before joining Planet Retail he worked with Hypercity, a leading retail company in India, as Trainee Service Manager. He has also worked with IMRB International, a leading market research firm, on retail food and pharmaceutical research projects.
Nisha Shetty is an Associate Analyst based in Mumbai primarily focussing on Planet Retail’s Global Foodservice Sector, CEE and LATAM grocery retailers. Before joining Planet Retail, she worked with Axience Consulting as a Business Research Analyst involved in Market Study, Industry Analysis, Competitor Analysis and Feasibility Study for various industries such as IT, FMCG and retail. Nisha is a graduate in Business Management (specialising in Finance) from the University of Mumbai.
Anisha is an Associate Analyst in macroeconomics based in Mumbai, working on the maintenance and expansion of the macroeconomic database of Planet Retail. Prior to joining Planet Retail, Anisha worked as a Market Research Assistant at Mind Mirror, A Qualitative Research Consultancy Firm in Mumbai. Anisha holds a BA degree in Economics from Mithibai College, Mumbai and a MSc Economics degree with specialisation in Development Studies from Symbiosis International University, Pune.
